Frontline workers in South Carolina who are buying their first home may qualify for up to $12,000 in forgivable down payment assistance though the 2021 Palmetto Heroes Loan Program from SC Housing.
As heartfelt thanks for these frontline workers’ long hours and dedicated service during the pandemic, SC Housing has set aside $50 million to help essential employees purchase their first home.
This means if you are a teacher, EMS personnel, licensed medical professional, law enforcement officer, correctional officer, firefighter, active duty military, veteran or member of the SC National Guard, you could qualify for a reduced fixed-rate mortgage and up to $12,000 in down payment assistance.
The program is available on a first-come, first-served basis and borrowers must have an executed sales contract on a home. Borrowers must also meet SC Housing’s First-Time Homebuyer requirements. Reservations for the program became available on April 1, 2021 and funds are limited, so act now if you’re interested in receiving these benefits. To learn more, please read the SC Homebuyer Program Palmetto Heroes Program Guide.
